SKIMONT

inspired by passion

Our PHILOSOPHY

We were raised with a love of winter sports and craftsmanship. Hobby skiers turned into ambitious mountaineers who valued not only the sport but also nature in their quest for freedom and adrenaline. That's when the idea of making our own wooden skis was born. In 2012, with the help of forums and YouTube DIY channels, the first Skis were built in the basement of our parents house. From the initial dilettantism and naivety, more and more know-how was acquired, which, combined with professional training and a passion for ski construction and skiing, led to today's Skimont Skis. The idea is not only minimalist design, but also classic construction, combining traditional natural and modern high-tech materials in a way that provides functionality without any fuss. In this way, the passion of the craftsmen is passed on to the rider for unforgettable moments in the mountains. The honesty of the construction and design is reflected in the broad smile of every rider.

In times of disappearing glaciers and burning forests, we want to make the passion for winter sports as sustainable as possible! By using high quality and renewable materials such as SaRaiFo veneers, SuperSap epoxy, oak sidewalls, ash wood cores, innovative basalt and flax fibre, we aim to reduce the carbon footprint of our skis as much as possible.

At the end of a ski or snowboard's normal life, we want it to be reused, not become non-recyclable waste. Hanging on the wall as a decoration, screwed into an unusual sled, made into ski furniture or transformed into a fashionable shelf - there are so many possibilities with our damn good looking wood designs.

WHY?

We love the winter, we love snow and we love skiing. Especially when its cold, when the snow is deep and fresh. Current climatic developments doesn't seem to be very promising for the future of our passion. At least not in the Alps. But that's our home. The world we live in is mainly driven by capitalism, growth and fossil resources. Just to name three but there is more. All things that have or can never be part of a sustainable future, where animals live in their natural habitat alongside humans, where plants grow without being cut down for fields and where snow falls when and where its supposed to. We want to tackle what we can. And this is the consumer side of Wintersports.

HOW?

The biggest impact we can have on the climate is through raising consciousness for consumer products in the winter sports section and promoting regional wintersports as well as skitouring as an alternative to long traveling, energy consuming gondolas and devastating groomers. A responsible consumer will choose products that actually create great emotions on the mountain through performing better. The true value of a product isn't represented by the money its worth, but by the relationship one can form with it. Therefore we encourage being part of the creation of your own products and customising its design. Choosing carefully how and where it is manufactured and what material its made of and where this material is made. How it can be serviced to prolong the lifecycle and finally how it can be recycled.

WHAT?

In our opinion outdoor sports such as skiing is a great way of finding yourself and your freedom. This is why our mission aims to deepen your relationship with nature through sports and feeling connected to it.

Values

Honesty: What is true? Its not only being in accordance to objectively stated facts but also something that is of real nature like wood and not artificial like plastics or ChatGTP.

Passion: Love it or leave it. The only way of doing things right is doing them with all your heart and soul. If you haven't found your passion yet, try our Backcountry Skis for one day and you might be surprised.

Freedom: the first and most important right of all living beings is being free and not determined by others or something. If you can't choose the days you want to go shred with your buddies, you might need another job.

Sustainability: If we want to keep on living a free live on a healthy planet with functioning ecosystems, we need to change how we define value and growth towards a closed cycle of recources instead of devouring everything we can dig up.

Equality: our goal is to provide the best ride to everyone. Therefore we we set up all our sizes for a wide range of people. No one should be excluded by their height, weight or other physical conditions.
